Our product is very well aligned with the EU intention to increase organic farmland and other key environmental initiatives. Environmentally speaking, it can improve the water management, thanks to soil loosening, and no contamination of groundwater. It also helps to increase the market share with organic food production compared to conventional crops which use chemicals. In root crops, our product can decrease the dependency on manual work and make the farming less volatile to the external factors like COVID-19 related problems to find seasonal workers..
Our product will contribute to the delivery of 2 goals of the Green Deal – a) ecosystem & biodiversity and mainly to b) Farm to Fork strategy by significantly reducing the use of chemical pesticides, more than 40% reduction in conventional agriculture. By supporting organic farming, W.O.R.M. helps to achieve Sustainable Development Goals by enhancing soil health and land restoration (1,2,11,12,15), water protection and scarcity management (1,2,6,7,8,9,11,12,14,15) and strengthening ecosystem resilience (1,2,13,14,15).
In the table below the chemicals computation for sugar beet is presented, but similar figures are valid for lettuce, cabbage and/or broccoli. For example, in sugar beet every year 1,7 million hectares of sugar beet are grown within the EU in conventional agriculture where more than 18.100 tons of pesticides are used nowadays.
